Reynolds student earns recognition
The National Society of High School Scholars has accepted Samantha Lindsay-Leann Fenwick, a sophomore at Reynolds High School.
Her acceptance was based on her “superior academic excellence,” according to the society, which has more than 300,000 members in more than 120 countries. Membership in the society qualifies students for such benefits as scholarships, academic competitions and other events.
The Corbett High School Cardinals baseball team is sponsoring its first Casino Night Fun ‘n’ Fundraiser at the Gresham Elks Club, 3330 N.E. Division St. from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Wild Bill’s Casino will be providing the action with blackjack, craps, and roulette tables. Tickets are $25 per person. By purchasing in advance, your ticket includes $20 in casino scrip and a drink ticket. If you purchase at the door, your ticket includes $10 worth of scrip.
All gaming will be for prizes, and proceeds will go to the baseball team, covering renovation of the varsity baseball diamond, dugouts and batting cages as well as the purchase of a scoreboard.
Prizes range from a weeklong stay at a Phoenix home (travel not included), a Traeger barbecue grill, golf for four people at Persimmon Country Club and many other prizes.

Students at Centennial Middle School have collected items for 341 hygiene kits for Medical Teams International (MTI).
Two years ago, the students put together 69 kits, last year it was 165 kits, and this year they exceeded their goal of 333 kits.
The donated items will be sent to people around the world who are experiencing extreme disasters, conflict and poverty.
Kits include shampoo, deodorant, soap, hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste and a washcloth or shower scrunchee.
John Tidswell, the school’s math teacher, said the annual drive has a special purpose.
“Our primary goal was to get the focus off of ourselves and onto others with significantly greater needs,” he said. “A lot of kids stepped up to the plate and gave very sacrificially.”
If you have a child who will be 5 by Sept. 1, and who currently lives in the Reynolds School District, plan to attend the kindergarten registration event where your child will attend school next year.
