ADVERTISEMENTS
James Raze, a member of the Fairview City Council since 1995, died at his home Tuesday, Aug. 14, of natural causes. He apparently suffered a heart attack at about 2 p.m., according to the Fairview Police Department.
Raze reportedly had heart surgery in April. At press time, The Outlook was unable to verify Raze’s age.
Raze worked as a property developer and real estate broker and was appointed to the Fairview council in April 1995. Fairview Mayor Mike Weatherby called Raze’s passing a personal loss as well as a blow to Fairview itself.
“It really hit me hard, I’ve got to tell you that,” Weatherby said. “He contributed a great deal to this city. We are all indebted to what he’s done.”
The mayor cited Raze’s work on the city parks committee and his efforts toward renovating the historic Heslin House among his key contributions.
“He didn’t just attend meetings,” Weatherby said. “He was a trusted member of council. (Raze) and his sons got in and donated material, money and actually did the work” on the Heslin House.
