Louise Peterson Whetzell
June 15, 1913-Feb. 14, 2008
Former Sandy resident Louise Peterson Whetzell, 94, died Thursday, Feb. 14, in Stanwood, Wash., of natural causes.
A private celebration of life will be held in July at Cannon Beach. She was interred in Portland.
Louise was born June 15, 1913, in Wamic to George and Ella Lucas. She was raised in Hood River and in Sandy, where she graduated from high school in 1932.
On June 10, 1932, she married Emery Peterson at Powell Valley Covenant Church in Gresham. She later married Earl Whetzell. She lived in the Gresham and Sandy areas from the 1930s until 2001.
Louis worked in business until her retirement in the 1970s. She was a longtime member of Gresham Free Methodist Church, and she was a Cub Scouts leader, a Girl Scouts leader and a member of the 4-H Club. She enjoyed Swedish cooking, singing in church and traveling to the Oregon Coast.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emery, in 1981 and her sister, Georgia.
Survivors include her son, Emery Peterson Jr. of Oceanside, Calif.; daughter, Darlene Buchanan of Kirkland, Wash.; grandsons, Todd Peterson of California, Tim Peterson of California, and Troy Buchanan of Indiana; granddaughters, Teesha Moore of Washington, Talani Sanislo of Washington and Traci Cornelius of California; and eight great-grandchildren.

Cesar Pedro Montoya Jr.
March 15, 1957-March 2, 2008
Gresham resident Cesar Pedro Montoya Jr., 50, died Sunday, March 2, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 10, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd.
Cesar was born March 15, 1957, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Cesar and Ruby (Martin) Montoya. He graduated from Estacada High School in May 1975. He entered the Air Force on July 3, 1975, and served for four years. After his discharge, he moved to the Portland area.
He married in 1980, and was later divorced.
Cesar worked for more than 20 years as a telecommunication repair specialist for Dictaphone Corporation in Gresham and in Spokane, Wash. He moved to Spokane in 1992, but returned to Gresham in 2001.
He was a member of the Estacada Moose Lodge. His many interests included fishing, tinkering with mechanics, reading, playing darts, pool and woodworking.
Survivors include his son, Sam Montoya of Eagle Creek; stepfather, Gary Waggoner of Eagle Creek; father, Cesar Montoya Sr. of Mercedes, Texas; sisters, LeAnn Gourley of Gresham, Maria Shoop of Beaverton, Pamela Davis of Crescent City, Calif., Robin Gunnell of Sandy, and Chris Hostler of Yakima, Wash.; stepsisters, Wanda Richter of Oregon City and Kathy Klum of Seattle; brother, Dale Hostler of Gresham; and two grandchildren.

F. Byrdette Byrd
April 14, 1919-March 4, 2008
Boring resident F. Byrdette Byrd, 88, died Tuesday, March 4, at Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Pleasant Home Community Church, 32120 S.E. Dodge Park Blvd., Gresham.
Byrdette was born April 14, 1919, in Pilot Rock to Frank and Carrie (Heacock) Byrd. He graduated from Sandy High School in 1937. He then attended Oregon State College.
On Dec. 25, 1939, he married Gladys Mae Rich in Vancouver, Wash. They lived in Astoria until 1941, when they moved to Boring.
Byrdette worked in the shipyards until his induction into the Army during World War II. He achieved the rank of staff sergeant. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Boring and worked in carpentry. In the late 1940s, he became a self-employed contractor and completed homes, schools, commercial buildings and bridges. He retired in 1981.
Byrdette was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, and an active member of the Boring Community Methodist Church and the Boring Volunteer Fire Department. He loved the outdoors and never missed the annual hunting trip or fishing seasons. He also enjoyed working in his woodshop and gardening, sharing the fruits of these labors with family and friends. His favorite activities were those he shared with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; son, Michael Byrd of Boring; daughters, Maureen Liles of Albany, Suzanne Espenas of Damascus, and Patricia Ham of Boring; brother, Maurice Byrd of Tacoma, Wash.; sisters, Arlene Dunn of Pendleton and Anita Hale of Milwaukie; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Lori Ann Leslie
Jan. 25, 1970-March 3, 2008
Gresham resident Lori Ann Leslie, 38, died Monday, March 3, at her home.
A public memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, in the chapel of Omega Funeral & Cremation Service, 223 S.E. 122nd Ave., Portland.
Lori was born Jan. 25, 1970, in Portland to Alan and Janet (Lucas) Fosnot. She attended Centennial High School and was a lifelong resident of the area.
In 1995, she married Timothy Leslie.
Lori worked as a waitress at Elmer’s Restaurant in Gresham.
Survivors include her husband; mother, Janet Fosnot of Winston; son, Brad Fosnot of Gresham; half-brothers, Rick Bonin of Gresham and Troy Bonin of Winston; and granddaughter, Lilley Fiest-Fosnot of Sandy.

Bernadine “Bernie” Frances Timbrel
July 12, 1931-March 5, 2008
Former Portland resident Bernadine “Bernie” Frances Timbrel, 76, died Wednesday, March 5, at her home in Sherwood of natural causes.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 17500 S.W. Cedarview Way, Sherwood. Interment will be private.
Bernie was born July 12, 1931, in New Ulm, Minn., to Alfred Henry and Anne Elizabeth (Sperl) Juhnke. She graduated from Washington High School and lived in Portland for 15 years, moving to California afterward. She returned to Portland in 1954.
She married Boyd W. Timbrel.
Bernie worked for the Postal Service in Sherwood from 1964 to 1983, and then she worked as Post Master in Fairview from 1983 until her retirement in 1993.
She was a member of the East County Soroptimist Club. She enjoyed singing in choirs at her church, bowling and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; sons, David Fowler of Sherwood, Michael Timbrel of Sherwood, and John Fowler of Pendleton; stepdaughter, Debbie Lawhorn of Wilsonville; sister, Marcia Moore of South San Francisco; brother, Marvin Juhnke of Portland; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dale I. Moulton
Dec. 19, 1938-Feb. 29, 2008
Gresham resident Dale I. Moulton, 69, died Friday, Feb. 29, at Fairlawn Care Center after a long battle with diabetes and Parkinson’s disease.
A memorial service was held. He was interred at sea.
Dale was born Dec. 19, 1938, in Halfway to Henry and Norna (Makinson) Moulton. He graduated from Baker High School in Baker City in 1956. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1960 from Eastern Oregon University and his master’s degree in 1979 from Oregon State University.
On Feb. 1, 1957, he married Rae D. Kirk in Baker City.
