Mac Carpenter
Jan. 31, 1917-March 10, 2008
Gresham resident Mac Carpenter, 91, died Monday, March 10, in Portland.
A viewing and funeral service was held Friday, March 14.
Mac was born Jan. 31, 1917, in Franklin, N.C., to Robert and Sara Carpenter. He grew up in Sedro Valley, Wash., and then lived in Cottage Grove, Mapleton and in Gresham since 1967.
He was married to Kathryn (Shook) Carpenter for 47 years, and then to Joanne Estes-Carpenter for 24 years.
Mac worked as a logger for Crown-Zellerbach. His interests included fishing, clamming, crabbing and hunting. For the last 20 years he was known to eat breakfast at Dea’s In & Out.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne Estes-Carpenter of Gresham; daughters, Diane Ellingson of Mapleton and LaRee Noel of Lebanon; son, Terry Carpenter of Boring; stepson, Mick Estes of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Martin William Butalla
Sept. 5, 1946-March 9, 2008
Gresham resident Martin William Butalla, 61, died Sunday, March 9.
Private services were held by the family.
Martin was born Sept. 5, 1946, in Harrisburg, Penn., to Martin William and Bertha (Potl) Butalla. He graduated from Steelton High School in Steelton, Penn. He received his master’s degree in civil engineering from Georgia Tech and a master’s degree in theology from Dallas Theological Seminary.
On June 9, 1979, he married Pamela Brown in Atlanta. He lived in Atlanta, Yardley, Penn., and Plano, Texas. He moved to Sandy in 1995 and to Gresham in 2001.
Martin worked as a civil engineer for XP Software for seven years.
He was active with New Covenant Hope of Gresham. He loved photography, model railroading and spending time on the computer and with his family. Martin was also an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.
Survivors include his wife; son, Steve Latham of Atlanta; daughters, Beth Heaton of Portland, Kara Janel Butalla of Cumming, Ga., and Laura Marlene Butalla of Cumming; sister, Martina Therese of Philadelphia; and one grandson.

Moreen Elizabeth McFee
Dec. 19, 1923-March 11, 2008
Troutdale resident Moreen Elizabeth McFee, 84, died Tuesday, March 11, at her daughter Kelly’s home in Troutdale.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd.
Moreen was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Alfred and Maude Kelly.
She was married to Robert McFee.
Moreen worked at Willamette View Manor and later at Odd Fellows Holgate Center. She loved working in the garden, her beloved pets and her family.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Kelly.
Survivors include her son, Dan McFee of Damascus; daughters, Susan Blomgren of Vancouver, Wash., and Kelly Brandolf of Troutdale; sisters, Evelyn Adamson of West Linn and Vera Hoofer of Sacramento, Calif.; former husband, Robert McFee of Portland; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
