Gresham police are still looking for the person who shot a woman as she stood on the corner of Southeast 162nd Avenue and East Burnside Street on Thursday, May 1.
Kimberly J. Crane, 25, of Portland was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg at Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center. Citing patient privacy laws, a hospital spokeswoman couldn’t confirm this or comment on the woman’s condition.
Witnesses told police the shooting started at 7:47 p.m. with an argument involving an unknown number of people at the intersection. They reported seeing a maroon-colored sports utility vehicle leaving the area headed west on Burnside, as well as a male pedestrian running in the same direction.
One witness told police the pedestrian might have had a gun. Police are not sure whether the shots came from the pedestrian or the vehicle.
The shooting took place near the 162nd Avenue MAX station but did not involve the platform, Gresham Police Lt. David Lerwick said.
A longtime hot spot for criminal activity, police from Portland and Gresham set up a special enforcement effort at the intersection last September. The effort lasted about three months, required 835 hours of overtime for Gresham police and cost the department $46,000, Captain Tim Gerkman said.
