Maude Freda Dober

Former Sandy resident Maude Freda Dober, 97, died Wednesday, April 30, in Gresham.
A memorial service was held Monday, May 5. Inurnment was at Fair Lawn Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Maude was born Sept. 26, 1910, in Sadorus, Ill., to Fred and Maude Mae (Newell) Gutherless. She grew up on a farm in South Dakota, helping in the fields with her father.
Maude married at age 18 and moved to Oregon. She later married Joseph Dober in 1963, and they made their home in Cornelius.
After Joseph’s death, Maude moved to Kimball, Neb., to care for her oldest son, Albert. When Albert died, she moved to Sandy in order to live near her daughter. She later moved to Fairlawn Care Center in Gresham.
Maude taught herself how to play the organ and piano, and she loved to sing, cook and entertain. She was an accomplished seamstress, and she enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She also loved horses and continued to ride until she was in her 80s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son, Albert; two sisters; and one grandson.
Survivors include her son, Robert Kuhrt of Woodburn; daughters, Beverly Wilson of Kimball, Joyce Baker of Bismarck, Ark., and Colleen Cunningham of Sandy; sister, Juanita Christensen of Kimball; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Gresham resident James Edward Fast, 86, died Friday, May 2.
A public memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd. Private interment will be in The Dalles.
James was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Mount Clemens, Mich., to Lucius and Bessie Fast. He earned his degree in engineering from Michigan State College.
