Various items will be collected for recycling, with certain rules applying to each category.

Comment sought on region’s future urban/rural areas

All East County residents and property owners are invited to comment on which Portland metro areas should remain rural and which areas should be allowed to go “urban” and open up for development within the next 40 to 50 years at a series of open houses.

One open house will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, at Sam Barlow High School, 5105 S.E. 302nd Ave. Metro planners, who are obliged to provide land for 20 years of population growth, are looking at more than 6,000 acres in the Orient area west of the Sandy River as one potential place for future development. Another open house will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 18, at the Metro Regional Center, 600 N.E. Grand Ave., Portland.

For more information, call Susana Brennan at 503-988-6800 or visit www.oregonmetro.gov/reserves.

Gresham house featured in tour of green homes

A Gresham house will be featured during an annual event that showcases the Portland area’s innovative “green” homes.

The Ultimate Open House event kicks off the buying season in Portland, with homes of all sizes, prices, styles and locations open for prospective buyers April 18-19 and April 25-26. The event also allows builders to showcase the sustainable and green building design and practices in each home, including the home’s energy efficiency.

Gresham’s Ostercraft Home, located at 2278 S.E. 171st Ave., will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on all four days. The house is an Earth Advantage green-certified home that includes 95-percent efficient hot water and HVAC systems and proper insulation.

For more information on the featured green homes in the area, visit www.ultimateopenhouse.net.
