Robert Marion Worley

March 15, 1925-April 22, 2009

Robert Marion Worley, a former resident of Boring, died Wednesday, April 22, at age 84.

A private memorial service was held Sunday, May 3, in Long Beach, Calif., in the garden at the home of his eldest daughter, Marietta Malan.

Robert was born March 15, 1925, in Albany, Ala., to Marvin Lee and Clerci Jane (Cagle) Worley and was raised in Decatur, Ala. He enlisted in the Army on Aug. 19, 1943, and served during World War II, where he received the World War II Victory Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal, an American Theater Ribbon and two bronze service stars. He was honorably discharged Feb. 24, 1946.

On Aug. 4, 1944, he married Helen Marie Dale in El Paso, Texas.

Robert was a machinist and he owned Worley Vacuum Sales and Service in Anaheim, Calif. His hobbies included fishing, golfing, oil painting and doing crossword puzzles, and he was a boxer in his younger years. Robert was known as a generous and kind man, with a quick wit and happy whistle.

Robert lived in Boring from 1990 to 1999 and in Sandy since 2007.

His wife, Helen, preceded him in death Jan. 2, 2006.

Survivors include his daughters, Marietta Malan of Long Beach, Calif., Faye Dockery of Garden Grove, Calif., Marian Hubbard of Severna Park, Md., and Jane Ouzts of Boring; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Neptune Cremation Service is handling arrangements.


Larry G. Brown

Aug. 18, 1937-April 28, 2009

Former Gresham resident Larry G. Brown, 71, died Tuesday, April 28, at Chandler Regional Hospital in Chandler, Ariz., from diabetes complications.

A memorial service was held Sunday, May 3, at the SunBird Golf Resort Clubhouse in Chandler.

Larry was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Monticello, Ill., to Ivan and Inez Storm Brown. He was raised in Minonk, Ill.

On Feb. 27, 1960, he married Phyllis Neal in Lexington, Ill. They lived in the Reynolds School District from 1972 to 1985 and in the Filbert Hill neighborhood of Southwest Gresham from 1985 to 1997.

Larry worked as a power manager for the Northwest division of Henkels & McCoy for 30 years. He retired in 1997 and moved to Arizona. His interests included community service and playing golf.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Susan Brown of Chandler, Ariz., and Karen Brown Salvadore of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Steve Brown of Phoenix, Ariz.; and brother, Mike Brown of Pontiac, Ill.

Helen Lassen Vogel

May 25, 1914-May 1, 2009

Gresham resident Helen Lassen Vogel, 94, died Friday, May 1, in Portland.

Committal will be at Willamette National Cemetery.

Helen was born May 25, 1914, in Pendleton to Christian W. and Margaret (Voorhees) Lassen. She served with the Coast Guard during World War II and was commissioned as an ensign on Sept. 5, 1944. After the war, Helen went to college on the GI Bill and graduated with honors.

In 1945, she married Howard Scantlin, who preceded her in death on March 7, 1988. On Nov. 24, 1993, she married John Vogel.

Helen taught drama at La Jolla High School in La Jolla, Calif. She lived on Maui, Hawaii, for many years and was a member and past president of the Lahaina Arts Society and of the Maui branch of the American Association of University Women. She moved to Gresham six months ago from San Diego.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her husband; and many nieces and nephews.

Frances Patricia Norris

Sept. 28, 1920-May 7, 2009

Gresham resident Frances Patricia Norris, 88, died Thursday, May 7.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd. Interment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Frances was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Seattle to Andrew and Ann (Burke) Towey. She graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1939. She served in the Women’s Air Corps starting in 1943 and served in the Far East Air Service Command.

On Jan. 5, 1947, she married Charles Norris on Bainbridge Island, Wash.

Frances was a homemaker. She loved to work in her garden and she enjoyed art, sewing, photography, camping and going on road trips. She also loved being with her grandchildren, and in 1996 she accompanied her daughter, Patricia, on a trip to adopt a child in China.

Her husband preceded her in death in December 1982.

Survivors include her sons, Michael Norris of Washougal, Wash., and Andrew Norris of Portland; daughters, Patricia Norris of Vancouver, Wash., Brenda Allbaugh of Portland, Mary Ann Norris-Verbitsky of Sandy and Teresa Moseley of Vancouver; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 0330 S.W. Curry St., Portland, 97239.

Dennis Ray Daniels

March 19, 1950-May 9, 2009

Gresham resident Dennis Ray Daniels, 59, died Saturday, May 9.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gresham Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
