ADVERTISEMENTS
The Gresham Police department announced its 2008 award winners.
Unit Citation – Special Enforcement Team consisting of Sgt. Marv Madtson and detectives Scott Hogan, Jim Paddock and Bob Peterson for investigating the overdose death of a Barlow High School student, as well as the sale of thousands of pirated and counterfeit items.
Achievement Medal – Senior Police Technician Deanna Grossi, Detective Justin Pick, Officer Mike Schmitt and Deputy Medical Examiner Damon O’Brien. While investigating a suspicious death in the 200 block of Northeast 162nd Avenue on May 27, 2008, two men became trapped under a car they were working on when their jack failed. Seeing that the men were having difficulty breathing, the four – with help from a fifth unidentified person – lifted the car high enough for both victims to escape without injury.
Achievement Medal – Officers Jeff Cordes, Scott Cunningham, Robert Harley, Jason Justus, Leesa Klepper and Sgt. Robert Fay for saving the life of a man who tried to commit suicide on Jan. 26, 2009. The man’s girlfriend reported getting a call from him in which he said he was going to hurt himself. There also was a possibility the man was armed. After searching his home, police found the man unconscious in his closed garage with a vehicle running and pulled him to safety.
Life Saving Medal – While supervising police response to the above mentioned attempted suicide, Sgt. John Harrison entered the carbon monoxide filled garage while the other officers opened the garage door. He then grabbed the victim and dragged him outside.
