Woman, dog uninjured after Oneonta fall

ADVERTISEMENTS

A woman and her dog survived a 20-foot fall into the water at Oneonta Falls in the Columbia River Gorge on Monday night, Aug. 17.

Jodi Opp and her dog were walking around the Oneonta Bridge when the dog lost its footing, according to Multnomah County Sheriff's officials. Opp also lost her footing and both of them ended up in the stream below.

The dog, an 8-year-old Rottweiler-shepherd mix, and Opp weren't injured in the fall.

Melanie Devries witnessed the rescue effort.

"A nice gentleman came down and was trying to find a way to get out," Devries said. "They were having trouble with the dog because the dog couldn't find any footing to get up from the bottom of the cliff."

Corbett Fire and rescue personnel were on hand to assist.
