A woman trying to stop her car from rolling down a driveway and into a Troutdale street jumped in, but ended up being run over on Tuesday night.
Troutdale police responded to the 7:08 p.m. report of the accident, which took place in a driveway at the intersection of South Buxton Road and the West Historic Columbia River Highway.
Witnesses reported seeing a car slowly rolling out of a driveway toward the highway with a woman climbing into the moving vehicle.
Her feet were dragging on the ground and she fell out of the driver’s door. One witness said it looked like the car’s back left tire ran over the woman’s legs.
According to the police report, Debra L. Lowry, 56, of Corbett told police she pulled into the driveway and stopped with the front of the 1991 Ford Escort facing the street. She got out, left the door open and walked away from the vehicle for a second.
Then, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the car rolling away. She ran to the vehicle and crawled into the driver’s side to stop it. But her feet got caught on something and she was dragged out. She told the police officer that if felt like the back tire ran over her legs.
“I confirmed they were by looking at the faint tire marks left on her pants,” officer Jeremy Costello wrote in his report.
An ambulance transported Lowry to Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center for treatment.
