Thanks to nearly $2 million in federal housing dollars and declining construction costs, a long-awaited affordable housing project in Rockwood is set to break ground in February.
The Human Solutions project, called simply The Rockwood Building, received $1.98 million in federal Recovery Act dollars for construction of the 47-unit affordable housing complex.
In addition, Innovative Housing Inc. of Portland received $2.79 million to acquire and rehabilitate 44 units of affordable housing at Hewitt Place northeast of Southeast Stark Street and Southwest 257th Avenue in Troutdale.
The two projects are among 17 in Oregon to receive a total of $28.6 million in stimulus dollars to complete or reinvigorate low-income housing, according to a press release from Oregon Housing and Community Services.
“These resources will help our state continue to recover from the economic downturn by creating affordable housing, jobs and investment opportunities throughout Oregon,” said Gov. Ted Kulongoski.
The Rockwood Building on Northeast 181st Avenue between Couch and Davis streets will include a 25,000-square foot multi-service center on the ground floor. The second and third floors call for 47 units of affordable housing – 17 units for homeless war veterans and their families and 30 for low-income residents.
