James B. Attebery

Dec. 1, 1932-Oct. 21, 2009

East County resident James B. Attebery, 76, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Pacific Gardens Alzheimer’s Special Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Pacific Gardens, 17309 N.E. Glisan St. A private burial will be held.

James was born Dec. 1, 1932, in Seattle to Mel and Genevieve Attebery. He graduated from Cleveland High School in Seattle and enlisted in the Navy, serving in Korea.

In 1956, he married Yvonne Peterson in Seattle.

James worked as a salesman.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Jeff Attebery of Arkansas and Jim Attebery of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Cathy Hayes of Tualatin; brothers, Bruce Attebery of Bellevue, Wash., and David Finnie of Gig Harbor, Wash.; sister, Laurie Kincaid of Edmonds, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1650 N.W. Naito Parkway, Suite 190, Portland, 97209.

Willette Marie Sutter

Jan. 15, 1944-Oct. 23, 2009

Gresham resident Willette Marie Sutter, 65, died Friday, Oct. 23, at home with her family by her side.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Mt. Hood Hospice, 39641 Scenic St., Sandy.

Willette was born Jan. 15, 1944, in Yakima, Wash., to William and Elizabeth (Matern) MacMahon. The family moved to Salem when Willette was young. After graduating from high school, she attended Chemeketa Community College and trained as a licensed practical nurse. She moved to Corvallis and worked as a nurse at Children’s Farm Home, where she met John Sutter. They married in 1966.

Willette and John started their family in Corvallis. They moved to Boring in 1972. They later divorced.

Willette returned to nursing and was employed at Rest Harbor, Willow Tree Care Center and later at Gateway Care Center. In November 1992, Willette started working at Mt. Hood Hospice, first as a licensed practical nurse and later as patient care coordinator. She was diagnosed with cancer, but she continued working right up until a month before her death.

Willette enjoyed spending time with her family as well as doing crafts, gardening, decorating her home for the holidays and spending time at her beach house. When her daughters were younger, Willette was actively involved in the Girl Scouts for more than 20 years and was one of the founders of the Alpine Day Camp. She also served as neighborhood chairwoman for more than 10 years.

Survivors include her daughters, Jennifer Mormance of Bend and Susan Krieger of Sandy; sisters, Dolores Fladwood of Salem and Sally Brinton of Bellingham, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

Duane Jarl Rea

April 20, 1935-Oct. 24, 2009

Duane Jarl Rea, a resident of Boring, died Saturday, Oct. 24, at his home after an 11-year battle with emphysema. He was 74.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd.

Duane was born April 20, 1935, in Portland to William and Bessie Rea, the fourth of seven children.

He was married to Shirley Madtson for 53 years.

Duane owned Section Line Auto Wrecking in Gresham. He was a longtime member of the Gresham Eagles and the Gresham Elks. In his early years, he enjoyed stock car racing, finishing as one of the top Northwest auto racers. He stopped racing because of illness.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Becky Schluntz of Gresham; sons, Duane Allen Rea of Gresham, Shane William Rea of Gresham and Lance Roger Rea of Gresham; brothers, Carl Markgraf of Portland and Keith Rea of Ocean Park, Wash.; sister, Kathi Barber of Dallas, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Adventist Hospice, 5835 N.E. 122nd Ave., Portland, 97230.

Ted Howard Anderegg

Oct. 26, 1937-Oct. 23, 2009

East County resident Ted Howard Anderegg, 71, died Friday, Oct. 23.

Visitation hours will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd. A service to celebrate his life will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 29, at Bateman Carroll, followed by a reception.

Ted was born Oct. 26, 1937, in Portland to Walter H. and Bernyce Lorene (Bunn) Anderegg. His ancestors started Meadowland Crest Dairy, located just two houses down from Ted’s birth home. He graduated from Gresham High School in 1955 and attended Oregon State University for two years.

On Nov. 19, 1963, he married Linda R. Boitano in Portland.

Ted worked in the family business for many years. For the past 16 years, he worked as an office manager at the Portland Expo Center. He intended to retire Friday, Oct. 30.

Ted was a member of the Gresham Elks. He was fascinated with model trains, and he loved his grandchildren and attending their activities.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Lore “Lorene” Cop of Portland; and two grandchildren.

Mark Alexander Fechtner Jr.

May 19, 1980-Oct. 22, 2009

Portland resident Mark Alexander Fechtner Jr., 29, died Thursday, Oct. 22, after a battle with a brain tumor.

A viewing will be held from 9 to 11:45 a.m., followed by a funeral service at noon Monday, Nov. 2, at Gresham Memorial Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave.

Mary Hisako Asakawa

April 13, 1920-Oct. 23, 2009

Gresham resident Mary Hisako Asakawa, 89, died Friday, Oct. 23.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd.

Mary was born April 13, 1920, in Gresham to Tokuji and Kise Kinoshita. She was interned in Minidoka, Idaho, during World War II.

In 1946, she married Nogi S. Asakawa.
