Gresham police have released a photo taken from video surveillance in hopes of getting information on a Thursday morning hit-and-run that left an elderly man in serious condition.
Police found the victim – identified as Jerome Calcagno, 79, of Gresham – semiconscious face down north of the fog line on Northeast Sandy Boulevard just east of 201st Avenue at about 7 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, said Sgt. Rick Wilson, Gresham police spokesman.
An ambulance transported him to Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center, where he is listed in serious condition.
Using two surveillance videos from nearby businesses, police have released an image of the scene. “The video is of very poor quality, but it’s all that we have,” Wilson said.
The suspect vehicle appears to be a larger maroon sedan and could be missing its antenna. It was last seen at 6:54 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, westbound on Northeast Sandy Boulevard off Northeast 201st Avenue.
A small black two-door vehicle also is seen heading eastbound passing the suspect vehicle just seconds after the collision.
Investigators with the police department’s Traffic Unit would like to speak with the driver and/or occupants of the black car.
Anyone else who saw something suspicious in the area between 6:50 and 6:55 a.m. also is encouraged to call the Gresham Police tip line at 503-618-2719 or 1-888-989-3505.
Re: Police seek information on Gresham hit and run
Please anyone who knows anything come forward. Jerome is a great man who puts his friends and family before him. He has done nothing but help people since I have known him. He deserves justice. I know a hit and run is a big scary thing but the more you hide the worse things are going to get for the person who hit him. So please anyone who knows anything come forward and help the police. Or if the person who hit him happens to read this turn your self in. Like I said the longer you wait the worse things will get.
