A man who broke into an elderly woman’s home and was on the verge of sexually assaulting her – until she took matters into her own hands – will spend 16 months in prison.

Michael Gordon Dick, 47, of Troutdale had pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary and no contest to attempted sex abuse in May.

On Friday, Nov. 6, Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Edward Jones sentenced him to five years probation and 16 months in prison.

The victim, an 88-year-old woman, was in her robe at 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 30, 2008, when she found Dick in her home in the 2500 block of Southeast 287th Avenue east of Gresham. He’d slipped through the sliding door.

Saying nothing, the naked 6-foot-1-inch tall, 185-pound man backed the tiny 100-pound, 5-foot tall woman into her living room. Then he shoved her face down into a chair.

But the woman had a plan of her own. She reached behind her, grabbed the man’s groin and squeezed with all her might.
