A fund has been established for a Gresham man shot in the side during what police say was a random shooting at Gresham Players Club on Friday, Jan. 29.
Jason E. Chapman, 37, of Gresham is being treated for a collapsed lung and is in the Intensive Care Unit at Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center.
Self employed as the owner of Corbett-based DWC Gutters, he has no health insurance, said his wife, Angela Chapman. As of Wednesday, Feb. 3, his medical bill topped $81,000. With another two to three weeks of hospitalization, as doctors predict, his bill could reach about $1 million, his wife said.
Living expenses and his company’s survival also are concerns.
“People are hiring other gutter professionals because he’s in the hospital,” Angela said. “So we’re losing a lot of business.”
Contributions to his fund – the Jason E. Chapman donation account – can be made at Clackamas County Bank branches in Gresham, Boring, Sandy and Welches. Because Chapman is in the hospital and can’t cash checks, they should be made payable to his wife, Angela.
Gresham police arrested the alleged shooter, Carroll L. Mayfield, 66, of Sandy shortly after he allegedly fired as many as eight rounds at patrons of the poker room on Friday night. Another poker player also was hit in the arm, but was treated and released from a local hospital.
Re: Fund set up for Gresham shooting victim
I have known the Chapmans for quite some time and still can't believe this has happened. Jason is a great person and it's sad to see him and his wife going through this. Everyone, please donate what you can to help them out; I know they would greatly appreciate it!! Our thoughts and prayers are with them both at this difficult time
