Susan Tolle, a medical doctor with Oregon Health & Science University’s Center for Ethics in Health Care, received the Elizabeth Wessinger award, which honors people who have demonstrated excellence in furthering the hospice movement, at the meeting. Tolle was recognized for her work with the national POLST (Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment) registry.
The hospice association is a statewide, nonprofit organization with a goal of making sure all Oregonians have excellent hospice care.
In 2009, 76 hospices provided a full array of supportive, palliative health-care services for terminally ill Oregonians and their families.
