THURSDAY, APRIL 8

Tiny Tots Class and Skate – 9:30 to 11 a.m., Gresham Skate World, 1220 N.E. Kelly Ave. Cost is $3.75. With every paid admission, one parent can skate free. Call 503-667-1647 for information.

Public Health Heroes Celebration – 11 a.m. to noon, Multnomah Building Boardroom, 501 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd., Portland. The Multnomah County Health Department and the board of county commissioners will recognize organizations and people in the community who promote and support public health. Homeschool Skate – 1 to 3 p.m., Gresham Skate World, 1220 N.E. Kelly Ave. Cost is $3.75. Open to homeschoolers of all ages. Call 503-667-1647 for information.

Beginning Kayak Lessons – 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Willamette Park, Southwest Macadam Avenue and Nebraska Street, Portland. Learn the basics of sport kayaking on solo and tandem kayaks, with the second part of the class including a tour of a local waterway. Trips go rain or shine. Cost is $42 and it’s open to ages 11 and up. Call NW Discoveries at 503-524-9192 for information and to register.

Short Tour Kayaking – 5 to 8 p.m., Willamette Park, Southwest Macadam Avenue and Nebraska Street, Portland. Explore the local waterways in touring kayaks that will allow participants to quickly become proficient paddlers. Instructors will provide a brief lesson to kayaking so even beginners will be ready for the tour. Trips go rain or shine. Cost is $42 and it’s open to ages 11 and up. Mental Illness Support Group for Family Members – 6 to 7:30 p.m., Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center, Administrative Building, Columbia Room, 23800 S.E. Stark St. A drop-in group for family members of people who have a mental illness to share their stories and find support. No registration needed. For information, call Lin at 503-492-1229. Sponsored by NAMI of Multnomah County.

Elks Bingo – 6:30 p.m., Gresham Elks Lodge, 3330 N.E. Division St. Members and guests welcome. For more information, call 503-666-1805.

Retro Jam Skate and Cheap Skate – 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Gresham Skate World, 1220 N.E. Kelly Ave. Cost is $3.50. Skate to the hit songs of the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s. Call 503-667-6543 for information.
