Grant supports county’s healthy homes program
Multnomah County is one of 25 organizations nationwide that were awarded funds to protect children and low-income families from lead paint and other household hazards.
A Healthy Homes Demonstration Grant of $874,898 will fund Multnomah County Health Department’s Community Asthma Inspection and Referral project (CAIR), which inspects homes for health hazards and helps landlords and low-income homeowners repair and improve their housing.
CAIR outreach workers will be based at two community organizations, Self Enhancement Inc. and Human Solutions, and will accept referrals from social service agencies and other organizations using a web-based data system. CAIR staff will also link the families and landlords to community resources and small grants.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking public comment on proposals for new hunting regulations, including the possibility of making the wearing of hunter orange while hunting mandatory in Oregon.
ODFW will host a series of public meetings around the state throughout May. The nearest public meeting will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at the Region Office, Bldg. 16, 17330 S.E. Evelyn St., Clackamas.
Meeting attendees can also offer input on game bird hunting regulations, which the commission will set at the Aug. 6 meeting in Salem.
The ODFW commission will be briefed on the proposed hunter orange rule options during the June 4 meeting in Salem, when members will decide whether to move forward with formal rule-making. If they decide to proceed, final rules regarding hunter orange would be considered at the Oct. 1 meeting in Bend when 2011 big game regulations will be set.
Written comments about any of the above topics can be sent to ODFW Wildlife Division, 3406 Cherry Ave. N.E., Salem, 97303, or e-mailed to odfw.comments@state.or.us. Members of the public may also testify in person at commission meetings. Visit the hunting resources page at dfw.state.or.us for more information.
