Mary Louise Buckley

Aug. 3, 1927-July 18, 2010

Former Gresham resident Mary Louise Buckley, 82, died Sunday, July 18, at Providence Portland Medical Center.

A private family celebration of her life will be held Aug. 7 in Portland.

Mary was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Tennessee to Bruce and Pauline (Brown) Knowling.

On Feb. 6, 1954, she married Claude Buckley in Stevenson, Wash. They lived in Hood River before moving to Gresham in 1954.

Mary was a homemaker. She enjoyed shopping, spending time with her family, cuisine and riding public transportation around Portland.

She was preceded in death by her husband in July 1995; by her brother, Robert Knowling; and by her sister, Ruth Knowling.

Survivors include her sons, John Buckley of Hood River, Ron Buckley of Gresham and Jerry Buckley of Portland; daughter, Renee Buckley of Portland; siblings, Cora Brown and Donna Westby, both of Vancouver, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Bernard “Bob” Thurman

Feb. 17, 1932-July 25, 2010

Gresham resident Bernard “Bob” Thurman, 78, died Sunday, July 25.

A memorial service was held July 30 at Omega Funeral Home in Portland.

Bob was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Pontiac, Mich., to Isaac and Mabel (White) Thurman. He was raised in Pontiac.

Bob served in the Navy and the reserves from 1948 to 1992. He served in the Korean War. He worked as a master electrician for the David Douglas School District for 15 years until his retirement in 1995. He was divorced.

Bob was a member of the Royal Arch Masons at the Gresham Lodge 152 and Fairview Lodge 92, the AF&AM Order of the Eastern Star chapter 17, and of Job’s Daughters International as an associate guardian, associate grand guardian and associate supreme guardian.

Survivors include his son, Michael Thurman of Gresham; sisters, Lois Seddon and Judith Thurman, both of Clarkston, Mich.; and brothers, Norval Thurman of Norfolk, Va., and John Thurman of Denver, Colo.

Memorial donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, 97239-3009.

Omega Funeral & Cremation Service is handling arrangements.
