Toshiba and MTV Networks will bring comedy, music, prizes and an Ultimate Fighting Championship star to Boring Middle School, 27801 S.E. Dee St., for a free event open to the public from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 15.
MTV entertainment reporter Toby Turner, MTV indie rock band Lives of Famous Men, Comedy Central comedian Amy Schumer and UFC Fighter Nate Quarry will be among the celebrities visiting Boring as they compete with Normal to prove how laptop technology can change their lives.
A gaming lounge will also give residents the opportunity to test what Toshiba laptops can do.
• Amy Morrison, 29, is the only woman on the Boring Fire District’s squad and plans to pursue her passion of educating people about CPR by video.
• Andy Welk, 42, is a lieutenant with the Boring Fire District and claims to be the community’s de facto mayor.
• Codi Sorenson, 16, is a high school sophomore with hopes of joining the film and music industry as a sound technician.
• Elizabeth Fournier, 41, is a local mortician who aims to use the contest to build a Web site for her business.
• Garrett Eisert, 18, is a punk rocker with an affinity for the electric guitar.
• Mike McGuire, 57, is the stationhouse cook and is working on his novel, “The Boring Firehouse Cookbook.”
