Items sought for rummage sale

Organizers of a mid-August rummage sale are seeking donated items from the community to sell, with all proceeds going to benefit a Gresham-area resident who needs a kidney transplant.

Donated items will be sold at a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15-16, at Murray Chevrolet, 1999 E. Powell Blvd. The proceeds from the sale will help Stephanie Gutridge, 29, pay for a kidney transplant. The surgery costs $80,000, and her friends, family, church congregation and fellow community members have raised about $40,000, and they’re hoping to raise the other $40,000.

Donated items can be dropped off at a storage unit at Money Saver Mini Storage, 2118 S.E. Hogan Road, during weekday and weekend business hours. Residents can also donate money. A tax identification number is available. For more information, visit www.stephstory.com or call Jim Helfend at 503-215-9825.

Candidates must file by Aug. 20

It’s unclear whether voters will cast ballots in a Nov. 3 special election, but in case there is one, candidates for Gresham’s City Council position No. 2 need to file by 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.

The at-large position was vacated by former City Councilor Mike Bennett in June when he resigned, citing work conflicts. Since then, city councilors appointed Josh Fuhrer to fill the position, which expires Jan. 3, 2011.

The Gresham city charter requires that council candidates file 75 days before an election — an election that will be held only if there’s another issue or candidate on the ballot.

Candidates must be 18 by the election and have lived in Gresham for at least a year prior to election.

Those interested in running may declare their candidacy by paying a $10 filing fee, or file by petition, which requires the signatures of at least 20 registered Gresham voters.

For an election manual or candidacy form contact City Recorder Susanjoy Baskoro at 503-618-2697 or at www.GreshamOregon.gov.

Public invited to judge photo contest

The public is invited to help pick the winners of the annual Go Click! photo contest, which seeks the best amateur photos of people and places in Oregon’s state parks.

Residents can view all the finalist photos at www.flickr.com/

photos/orstateparks and submit an online comment for the top three photos, or send an e-mail to go.click@state.or.us that includes the names of the top three choices. The top 12 photos will be announced on Aug. 26 and be added to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department’s 2011 calendar.
