Gresham’s Nick Ingram returned an interception 35-yards for a touchdown in the third quarter and kicked a 30-yard field goal with just over three minutes remaining as the Gophers defeated Roseburg, 23-21 Friday.
“The defense bailed us out on this one an Nick came up huge when we needed him and nailed the field goal that was the difference,” Grehsam head coach Mike Allison said. “(Roseburg) had momentum heading into the second half but our defense pulled this one out for us.”
Trailing 21-14 with 2:21 remaining in the third, Roseburg’s Micah Aadis dropped back to pass and was flushed out of the pocket. While rolling to his right, he lobbed a pass that Ingram grabbed and rumbled down the sideline for a touchdown.
Ingram missed the extra point, leaving the Gophers trailing 21-20 heading into the fourth quarter.
“Nick missed an extra point, but he more than made up for it with the way he played defense in the fourth,” Allison said.
On the ensuing kick-off, Ingram kicked the ball off that bounced in front of the Roseburg return man, who let the ball bounce and was recovered by Gresham at the Roseburg 25.
